Cruise Reward FAQ:
Question: When is the cruise?
Answer: July 25 through July 29
Question: Where does the cruise go?
Answer: The reward cruise will travel to the Bahamas out of Charleston, SC. Here is the itinerary.
Question: Will chaperones be provided for the cruise if a girl travels alone?
Answer: For our older girl scouts (cadette and up) we will have chaperones. For our younger girl scouts
(Daisy, Brownie, and Juniors) a caregiver will need to purchase a ticket and travel with the girl scout.
Due to the extent of the trip, it would be very difcult to take a young girl on such a long-distance trip
with chaperones that she likely will not have ever met. For the comfort of the girl and the logistics of
leaving the country without parents, we will require that our younger girls travel with their family.
Question: Why is the price of the cruise estimated at $700? I priced the same cruise online and it
shows $544 per person.
Answer: The estimate of $700 was intended to provide a ballpark amount for budgeting and planning
purposes. We will not know the exact pricing for each attendee until we know how many girls,
parents, and chaperones will be in attendance. The price varies depending on how many per room.
The $700 estimate also includes the taxes, fees, port expenses, gratuity, and insurance. These are not
all included in the price viewed in an online search.
Question: Why doesn’t the reward include a ticket for a caregiver to attend? I’ve seen prizes in
other councils & all their trips included girl + caregiver.
Answer: Each council has ownership of their reward program and designs the rewards around their
own unique budget and circumstances. This is our rst year offering a cruise as a cookie reward and
we consulted with other councils that have offered it in the past. Looking at our options, working with
a travel agent experienced in cruises, and evaluating our rewards budget we came up with the cruise
reward as documented. Keeping in mind that the main objective is to celebrate the girl scout for
achieving great heights in her cookie business.
Cruise Reward FAQ:
Question: Are we able to upgrade our room to an exterior room?
Answer: Yes, if the cruise still has exterior rooms available when we nalize our rooms, attendees, etc.
Families can pay for an upgraded room. Note: the girl scout’s reward will cover the cost of the interior
room and families will be responsible for any additional costs for the girl scout.
Question: When is payment due?
Answer: Caregivers/families attending with their girl scout will need to commit and sign the cruise
agreement by March 20. This will include a $150 deposit. All nal payments are due by May 1.
Question: Are passports required?
Answer: No, not necessarily. Passports are highly recommended, though.
U.S. citizens taking a “closed-loop” cruise are not required to have a passport but will need proof of
citizenship such as an original or certied copy of a birth certicate, a certicate of naturalization, a
passport card, an enhanced drivers license (EDL) as well as a government-issued photo ID. Children are
also required to bring proof of citizenship and if 16 and over a photo ID is also required.
Children without a passport, traveling without legal guardians will need notarized approval from
parents.
At the 3000+ level, Girl Scouts will be able to
cruise into their adventure.
