The City Council of the
City of Crystal River designated City streets which
are designed and marked in Resolution No. 17-R-
23 Exhibit “A”, for operation of golf carts within
the City as to the Provisions of Ordinance 11-O-18
and Chapter 316 of the Florida Statutes. Golf
carts may be operated on all roads and streets
designated for such use by resolution of the City of
Crystal River, in accordance with F.S. § 316.212.”

“…All operators of golf carts within the City
shall comply with state statutes pertaining to
operation of golf carts and of motor vehicles.
Any violation of such statute(s) shall also be a
violation of this ordinance. Golf cart operators
shall comply with all applicable local and state
traffic control devices, and operators of golf carts
may be summonsed for traffic and moving
violations, in the same manner as other motor
vehicles….
All golf carts must obtain a
Registration Decal. To obtain a Registration
Decal, owner of golf cart shall furnish the City
(1) proof of ownership; (2) proof current
liability insurance; and (3) complete
application.
Owner must pay fees for obtaining Registration
Decal. Registration Decal shall be valid for
one (1) year. Application, payment, inspection
and insurance shall be required by the City
annually for renewal.
HOW TO REGISTER & OBTAIN A
DECAL:
1. Must show proof of a valid Florida driver’s
license, general liability insurance.
2. Present all documents listed above to City
Hall. Fees will be set at $15.00 for a one
year Registration Decal.
3. Once you receive the Registration Decal,
you MUST place the decal on the golf cart
on the Rear passenger side of the golf cart.

GOLF CART MUST BE EQUIPPED
WITH:
1. To operate after sunset the golf cart must
have a windshield, headlights, turn signals
and brake lights.
2. All golf carts must be equipped with efficient
brakes, reliable steering, safe tires, rearview
mirror, and red reflectorized warning
devices, in both front and rear, at all times
while operated on City designated road and
streets.
Operation of a golf cart within the City is a
privilege granted by the City and not a right
possessed by the individual operator. The
resident understands that they may be cited by the
Citrus County Sheriff's Office for any violation of
the City's Golf Cart Ordinance.
There will be signage posted along designated
roads and streets where golf cart operation is
authorized, advising motorists of possible golf
cart traffic, and alerting the public that the
operations of such golf carts.
1. The same laws that prohibit the use and
possession of alcohol while operating a
motor vehicle apply to the operation of
a golf cart.
2. Golf cart must have a valid City
registration decal. A registration decal
may be obtained at City Hall.
3. Golf cart operators must be at least 16
years or older.
4. Do not exceed the number of occupants
for which the golf cart was designed.
5. Do not carry children or animals on
your lap while operating a golf cart.
6. Follow the same traffic laws that you
would follow when operating a motor
vehicle.
7. Stay off sidewalks.
8. Be aware at all times that golf cart
occupants are extremely at risk when
traveling in traffic. A golf cart offers no
protection from collision. Remain
alerts and drive defensively!
9. Golf carts will not legally be allowed to
cross US-19 or SR-44 since the FDOT
criteria cannot be satisfied at any
intersection within the city limits.
10. The City will NOT notify you for the
renewal.
